SPICED WINTER PORRIDGE

CHRISTMAS SPICED BERRY, ORANGE & CREAMY BANANA PORRIDGE. PERFECT FOR COLD DARK MORNINGS, WHEN YOU NEED WARMING FROM THE INSIDE OUT

CHRISTMAS SPICED

WINTER PORRIDGE

SERVES: 1

INGREDIENTS:

  • 50g sprouted raw, organic, rolled & naked oats

  • Half a cup of dairy free milk of choice

  • Half a cup of hot filtered water

  • Half of a ripe & sliced banana

  • One tsp or to taste ground spice such as cinnamon. I like to use a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cardamon, allspice& star anise

  • One dessertspoon of raw honey or maple syrup

  • Tbsp dairy free plain or vanilla yoghurt - optional

  • Pinch of pink himalayan salt

BERRY SAUCE:

  • Half a cup of frozen berries, I used blackberries

  • Dessertspoon of honey

  • Quarter cup of filtered water

  • Tsp cinnamon - optional

OPTIONAL:

  • Fresh orange zest

  • Orange & Cashew Paleo Granola

  • Ground flax seed or oil

  • Sliced Banana

  • Fresh Berries

  • Cashew Butter

  • Bee Pollen

  • Chia seeds

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Place the oats, dairy free milk & hot water into a small saucepan and cover with lid. Leave to soak whilst you prepare sauce or complete your morning routine. I usually leave to soak whilst I shower & dress or visit the gym.

  2. To make the berry sauce, (which can me made in advance and kept in a jar within the refrigerator) place frozen berries of choice, honey, water & cinnamon if using into a small saucepan over a medium heat. Stir and add extra water if needed. After a few minutes the berries will soften into a jewelled coloured thick sauce.

  3. Once you are ready to cook your porridge, place the saucepan with oats & liquid over a medium high heat. Add half of a chopped banana, honey, pinch of salt, ground spice of choice & dairy free yoghurt if using. Stir until porridge bubbles and thickens, around five minutes. Taste and add extra spice or sweetener if required. Once the porridge is at your desired consistency take off of the heat and pour into a bowl.

  4. Stir the orange zest through the porridge and top with your desired toppings.

  5. Eat, enjoy and wonder why you didn’t make this before!
