Wide Awake Smoothie - New & Improved Recipe

I have been making my Wide Awake Smoothie like it's going out of fashion! It's such a great flavour combination and the perfect post workout breakfast, so why wouldn't I? Full of protein & good fats from the avocado as well as antioxidants from the raw cacao.

 

I've been playing around with the recipe too. I added some frozen banana slices, the natural sugars in the banana are great after my strength training to bring my glycogen levels back to normal. Frozen banana also makes the smoothie extra thick and decadent. Be sure to make the coffee in advance and chill in your fridge overnight that way you wont need to add any ice which can water down the flavours. You could use decaf coffee but I like the little kick of caffeine from a strong espresso

 

 

SERVES: 2

INGREDIENTS:

  • One cup of chilled strong organic coffee

  • Two scoops of Paleo chocolate protein powder

  • 3/4 cup of dairy free milk

  • 3/4 cup of chilled filtered water

  • One heaped tbsp raw cacao powder

  • One large handful frozen organic spinach

  • Half of a large ripe avocado

  • Half of a frozen banana (optional but makes the mixture extra creamy)

OPTIONAL:

  • Toppings of choice such as cacao nibs

  • Chia seeds

  • Ground flaxseed

  • Ice

 

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Place all ingredients apart from any toppings into a high powered blender and blend until smooth

  2. Pour into two glasses and top with toppings of choice

  3. Enjoy!
