New Recipe: Black Forest Gateau Smoothie Bowl

I've been so into my training lately that I have reduced fruit in my diet to pretty much zero. This isn't a problem until a particular craving comes along. Like an itch you cant scratch. I wanted berries...Yep I know, there are worst cravings to have!

 

Berries and chocolate, now that is a match made in heaven. My PT said if I was going to eat fruit, the best time would be straight after training. Therefore I set about making a favourite dessert of mine from when I was a child, only this time in the form of a balanced smoothie bowl.

 

Black Forest Gateau. I totally forgot how good this winning combination is. I thought a smoothie bowl or smoothie would be just the ticket, not only truly scrumptious, but full of protein for post training muscle repair, good fats from the delicious creamy avocado and not to mention sweet berries and chocolate. How could anyone not like this, it's impossible.

 

So what are you waiting for? Place the ingredients into your blender, blend and transport yourself to dessert heaven. Safe in the knowledge this smoothie bowl is a bowl of 'health' giving your body just what it needs. Did I mention it tastes like chocolate cherry cake!!!

 

SERVES: 1

INGREDIENTS:

  • 150g frozen Black Forest fruits (you can find these in most supermarkets, otherwise a mixture of cherries, blueberries, blackberries & grapes)

  • 1/4 of a ripe avocado, approx 30g

  • One large scoop of chocolate protein powder

  • One tbsp of chia seeds

  • One cup of chilled filtered water

OPTIONAL:

  • Toppings of choice, cherries, cacao nibs, chocolate shavings, coconut cream etc.

  • Large handful of frozen organic spinach 

  • Collagen powder 

 

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Place all ingredients apart from the toppings into a high powered blender and blend until smooth. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides a couple of times.

  2. Pour into a bowl and top with cherries & chocolate if desired.
